    Our Story

    ABRP started because Bo wanted EV road trips to be as simple as they should be. It was 2016, he'd just gotten his first Tesla, and planning longer drives was unnecessarily complicated. So he built something straightforward: plan your route at home, open it in your car's browser, and go.

    Other EV owners needed the same thing. ABRP grew organically, shared in forums, passed along in Facebook groups, recommended between friends figuring out this new way of driving. What began as a weekend project hosted in Bo's closet quietly became essential infrastructure for the EV community.

    By 2018, the scope had shifted. We founded Iternio to keep ABRP free for drivers while building solutions for the industry itself. Today, we partner with some of the world's largest charging networks and automakers. But we're still a lean team, still shipping quickly, still focused on making EV travel work the way it should.

    • 2016
      A hobby project becomes ABRP
      After getting a Tesla, the founder wanted a better way to plan long trips outside the car, and still have that plan available in the in‑car browser while driving.
    • 2018
      Iternio is formed
      What started as a personal tool quickly resonated with the growing EV community. Iternio was formed to keep ABRP’s core experience free (with Premium for power users) and to provide EV planning APIs for partners.
    • 2023
      Rivian acquires Iternio & ABRP
      ABRP remains the same independent product, still focused on helping every EV driver plan with confidence, now backed by a broader mission and long-term investment in EV software. Read Rivian’s announcement here.

      Planning at global scale
      ABRP supports millions of drivers with better data, better models, and continuous improvements across app and in‑car experiences.
